Flattering Gesture

A friend wrote this for me so I want to share it with you. I was struck by the beautiful imagery it created in my mind.

The Magical Adventure

i think we should dance in the moonlight
i think we should skip in the rain
i think we should drift on the oceans
till we’re both insane

we could roll around in grassy places
we could lose some heat in the snow
we could fly around the world
till there’s no place left to go

but life would be easier
life would be sane
if we didn't have to feel
if we didn't have to think

is it better to have loved and lost
than never loved at all
or is this just a fairytale
like midnight after the ball

all too much
and much too fast
is this something
that is meant to last

why don't we ride the subway
stare longingly through the crowd
why don't we hide in the garden
and pretend to count out loud

we could pass one another on the dancefloor
like strangers in the night
we could slip past the aisle of apples
tempting us to bite

yes, life would be easier
life would be sane
if we didn't have to feel
if we didn't have to think
