"Spanish soap operas and Mom"
Analisa and Mariposa have been indulging (when they can) in a novela...."El Cuerpo de Deseo". They told me take a peek....it is good....and i took a peek.
Shower scenes and frolicking-in-the-forest scenes.
This novela has a good amount of skin and action.
Now, i have my mom hooked too. One evening, she managed to sneak a peek when i was over for dinner.
"Que es eso?" asks mom.
"Una novela que mira Mariposa" replied drvodka.
Maybe she was captivated by the character whose been reincarnated, but mom is now a regular viewer. In fact, my dad caught her in the laundry room watching the novela one night.
"No wonder you take so long down here".
In her defense, I assure you that she is actually doing the laundry AND having a little fun at the same time.
The problem now is that she is getting hooked to the novela before "El Cuerpo de Deseo (the body of desire)" ....which is "La Tormenta (the storm)". She doesn't watch all of "La Tormenta" but she tunes in at least for the last 30 to 20 minutes of it.
In a recent episode of "La Tormenta", two women were fighting.
As we are about to have dinner, she turns to me, "Why are they fighting?"
"I don't know,"... drvodka doesn't watch that novela.
"They are probably fighting over El Paton"
"Quien?"
"El Paton (mom's nickname for him)".....and look who walks in....el Paton, a tall man with vanilla coloured shirt and pants.
More bickering among the women and el Paton. Mom calls him, el Paton, because he has HUGE sideburns...probably bigger than "90210" sideburns a la Luke Perry.
When el Paton's mother threatens to kill him if he sleeps that woman again, my mom walks away from the kitchen sink and rushes to the TV, "Van a matar el Paton!"
*mom later realized she should have called him El Patilludo (spelling?)....versus El Paton (paton is more for someone with big feet) but we agreed that El Paton sounded cooler.

For those not fluent in Spanish, it's probably one of the shows that can be set up with English subtitles.
I can't believe you told your mom that I watch that novela! For some reason I'm embarrassed. The scene with the two chics fighting is because lady #2 slept with el paton and lady #1 is jealous because she's in love with him but he thinks that is his biological mom...
I'm embarrassed that I just told you the story of novel #2. Does your mom watch "Decisiones?" I confess I sneak that in sometimes. DO NOT TELL YOUR MOM THIS TIME!

no need to be ashamed ....my mom is probably grateful that you helped introduce her to this novela. And i will keep her away from the third novela
