Becoming a doctor

you must deal with life AND death.....

i've seen people die...i've watched helpless....
nothing left to do....nothing we can do but let go
i've seen people die..after withdrawing lifesupport....
removing the tubes....turning off the ventilator
the heart beats slower and slower until
.........flatline
no more breathing
no more beating

life is fragile....
if you didn't know this....
didn't truly comprehend this
before your training,
you learn.
the birth of a healthy baby is truly a miracle.
life is fragile....

It's amazing how we are so good at forgetting how fragile we are and how short and precious life is. I've managed to avoid facing death most of my life, but that avoidance can't continue much longer.
