people ask some interesting questions when using search engines. i saw one that i have never been ask in the clinic. nevertheless, interesting question. I don't know how much medical literature is available via the internet to answer this Q. Maybe this person didn't find their answer....or only found an unsatifactory answer. So i will tackle it with my medical knowledge. I'm not an expert in this field but i think i'm a good starting point. Perhaps the next time someone asks this question, they'll find my answer.
as i began thinking of my answer to this question......it brings up other issues like oral sex, vaginal/anal sex, AND safe sex. Why not talk about it all then especially since December 1st was World AIDS Day?
i'll be back with more.....

Here is my question of the day. What is the best way to help ease the cold symptoms of a 16 1/2 month old?
This is his first major cold. (All the other ones were trivial compared to this.) The problem basically comes down to the difficulty for him sleeping at night. Last night was the first time in a very long time that sleep was in issue for him last night.
It's a lot tougher trying to deal with someone else's illness compared to dealing with your own illness, especially when that person has very limited communication skills.
I realize that was a dumb question. You probably can't make much in the way of medical comments on your blog, given your profession and the proliferation of lawsuits. In any case, I think our pediatrician has us on the right track.
*wondering what the question was*
Zataod,
it wasn't a dumb question but i guess i need to remember the whole thing about lawsuits too :)
someone can read this and try to blame me for something that didn't go right.
But as a disclaimer: medical advice in print (books/internet) isn't always the best advice. A doctor usually needs to examine the patient especially if things aren't improving or getting worse. We can never underestimate the power of the physical exam. Even if u call ur doctor at night, he/she will always tell u to take the child to the ER if things get worse.
Z,
Colds/URIs (upper respiratory infections) always make parents of infants/toddlers anxious/crazy/sleepy (up all night). There are OTC (over the counter) products for kids but parents still have to be careful about giving too much especially in very young children. But one thing is for sure...NEVER give kids VICKS to drink! I've heard of people who make a tea with VICKS and FEED it to kids. VICKS is not meant to be eaten or drunk.
