Am I a real physician?
A recent conversation with a relative led to this question...
"Why are you in family medicine?" She asked me in almost a sad voice. I knew why she was asking me in that tone.
"Because that's what I like," I replied without hesistation and with confidence.
"But you're (family physicians) looked down upon"
"I know, but I don't care what they say or think."
"They (those in other fields of medicine) don't think you're a real doctor"
"I'm a real doctor," I declared with determination.
It is true that family physicians aren't always respected by our colleagues in medicine. I think it comes from family physicians taking care of pediatric and adult patients. Internal medicine physicians must think that only they can provide stellar care to adult patients. Pediatricians must think that only they can offer the best care to children. Of course, I feel that a family physician can provide excellent care to both. The thing with all physicians is knowing one's limits. One can't expect that one will be great at everything....or know everything. There are times when family physicians have to refer patients to specialists. But so do internists and pediatricians. They will also come across a particular disease/illness that they aren't adequately qualified/trained to manage.

no, i havent heard it.
i'll listen to it tomorrow tho, when the house is quiet. there is no way in hell i'd hear it at this hour. (9 pm on a sunday night. LOL sunday on fox. Family Guy, house must be quiet.)

i saw My Chemical Romance live last November, (effing amazing. i cried because they played my favourite songs.) after i thought i would never see them live either.
thank god someone else knows who they are! i havent met one other person except my best friend who knows who they are. and i had to turn her on to them.
and i love Billy Corgan. im such a Pumpkin Head too.
Dr. Vodka, I have never heard of this before. What a shame that other Dr.s are snobs! That is there problem. All I know is you're a kick-ass Dr. that cares about the patient!
You're as real and as genuine as they come.
Any physician that looks down upon you is both a snob and ignorant of your true worth... also over-estimating his/her own worth.

there are snobs in the medical field....monstrous egos lurk in the hospitals/clinics.
