Organic School Lunch

The state of Washington has the right idea when it comes to school lunches. Some of the meals at my elementary school were quite repulsive. I have to eat that? The chicken was so greasy, I am surprised it didn't slide out of our hands. We were given this cheap sheet (plastic like) to wipe our hands when an ordinary paper towel would have been better. I don't remember many salads, but I do recall fruits. Proper nutrition and good eating habits need to begin early. How early? When you start feeding your infant solids. Avoid SODA and juices (many "fruit" juices have little or no actual fruit juice). Encourage them to drink water. Whenever I see anyone under 2 years old drinking soda from their bottle, I shriek in horror. Soda has NO nutritional value and leads to tooth decay. Taking a toddler to the dentist won't be fun for the child or the parent. The earlier they start drinking sugary liquids, the harder it is to take it away from them.

The only thing I miss about school lunch were the giant, soft and chewy chocolate chip cookies they sold in high school. I know not the healthiest.

I was fond of the buttermilk cookies at my grammar school.

My sister and my sister in law knew that if they didn't want to experience the wrath of my mother they had to make sure to never, ever, under no circumstance, feed their babies soda in a bottle.

I loved our "tiendita" at school, they sold tortas and tacos.
