My last name has something to do with "blue", ‘bluish purple’ (from some Latin word meaning ‘thistle’). Presumably the noun tierras ‘lands’ is to be understood, and the reference is to land covered with bluish plants, such as thistles or vines.

Mine means two things depending on the Basque dialect.
1. Side of the hill (mostly in the Hegoalde dialects)
2. Truth (mostly in the Iparralde dialects)
And since my family comes from Iparralde, I am sticking to that one.
Blex, that's pretty cool - Truth!
