Nine Eleven

The fourth year anniversary of 9/11 is less than a week away.

During the first anniversary of that horrible day, i found myself in the East Coast. The month of September was spent in New Haven furthering my medical education. I was completing an elective in nephrology. The kidney is amazing, but unfortunately it was also an elusive organ to master.
My mission to study this mysterious organ began in med school. But there are too many renal formulas and too many electrolyte exchanges to keep track of in the nephron (which is why i'm not a nephrologist). Nevertheless, i'm still fascinated how 1-2 million nephrons work in unison to purify our bodies.

Being in Connecticut, it was easy to head to NYC one weekend to visit ground zero.

to be continued.........

I just saw that the NYPD sent 322 officers to New Orleans. Odd how in just a matter of years they will be providing assistance for the victims of another, very different disaster most likely on the 9/11 anniversary.

On another note, a few weeks ago we had 2 or 3 diagnoses of pyelonephritis in the hospital where I work. The kidney is fascinating but makes my brain hurt. Start talking about loop diuretics and the Loop of Henle and I get a far away look...
