World Series commentary: game 3

OMG!
OMG!
DAMN!

my White Sox
I LOVE MY WHITE SOX!
Who said my Sox didn't have it.......weren't "Championship" material?!
Not me.......i've been feeling the White Sox MAGIC since the beginning of the season

and PINCHE Blum was the hero! Blum?
Those not watching the games religiously this season would have been wondering who the hell is that. As the 14th inning roll in, I sensed some magic was going to happen in the 14th. Konerko was up to bat.....he wears the number 14. Alas, Dye and Konerko didn't bring the game winning run. Konerko hit into a double play...i think. Then Geoff Blum wielded his mighty bat at the plate. That's when i thought....PINCHE Blum is going to win this game for us...OF COURSE.
(Mr. Geoff Blum was the only player we got at the trading deadline back in July)

Unlikely hero......White Sox are a bunch of unlikely heroes. A different hero with every series and every game. Remember the 4 complete games in the Angels series? Duque's performance in Boston? Podsednik's homerun? Iguchi's homerun?

I think the count was 2-0 when BAM.....Homerun to Right field. White Sox up 6 to 5.
Rejoice Sox Fans!!!!

The Astro collapse continued and Sox scored another run on a walk to give them a 7 to 5 lead. Marte was still in the game and would be the pitcher to close the 14th inning. Three outs and the Sox would be up in the Series 3 to 0. One win away from the World Series Championship!

But to recap.....
this was the longest World Series game in history.....5 hours and 41 minutes.
IT went 14 INNINGS!!

More Highlights:
Starter Jon Garland pitched well......7 innings.

El Duque coming in the 9th inning to keep the Astros from scoring and forcing the extra innings.
A "tight" neck made Duque leave the game. I did think it was a smart move by Ozzie because El Duque is normally a starter and would have been able to give us a couple of innings.

Ozzie had to change plans
Vizcaino was summoned from the bullpen
At some point Jenks came in......with his flaming throwing stuff....YEAH!
Heck.....the whole damn bullpen was used......Damaso Marte came in too!
You heard right....Marte.....i have to admit i was a bit scared to see him on the mound.....
He tends to walk guys or hit them, but he has good stuff too.....
When he in ON....he is fierce.
Tonight.....early this morning....MARTE was ON!
But it would be starter, Mark Buerhle (who pitched game 2 on Sunday)
who would get the last out and the SAVE. Another White Sox WIN!

This is the pitching order of the game:
Garland (starter)
Politte
Cotts
Hermanson
Hernandez
Vizcaino
Jenks
Marte (W, 1-0)
Buehrle (S, 1)

Game 4 tomorrow....er....tonight
Freddy Garcia takes the mound ......tune in at 7pm CT
*that "S" word is sweeping across the mouths of Sox fans everywhere

Woohoo!

I went to bed after the 9th (I am on east coast time and I have to teach today). I am happy I did because there is no way I could have made it past 2 am.

As I went to bed, I thought the 'Stros would pull this one game out. But then I figured the Sox would win the next two. I woke up to find out that the Sox won the marathon game.

Your guys will win one of the next two games. In some ways I would like the Sox to win in Chicago. It is a bit anti-climactic to win on the road (like the Red Sox last year). I sure Chi-town will celebrate a World Series title in style, no matter where the Sox win it.

One more, one more...

Here is the problem. Who will be the MVP of this series? There have been so many key plays by so many different players.

El Duque really came up clutch in the 9th... and how about Marte?!
Until the postseason I had only seen a handfull of White Sox games this season (8-10), but I know a scary reliever when I see one. Every team has that one guy who puts up decent numbers but for whatever reason you feel nervous when he comes into the game, and Marte is one of those guys... On my beloved Nationals, that guy is Luis Ayala... great stats but had a knack for gaving up some big homeruns.
