I think your poem describes it very fitting,...I like it..
(but perhaps...the song is a bit more positive than the end of your wakeupcall)

about the poem, as you point out,
i didn't give it a very positive ending. i think i did that to reader a sense of urgency to take action promptly.

Oh...
I have to have WorldCup fever if I not want to be alone here.
Above all I like the thousands of various and new faces here in Germany. That give you a touch of World feeling and..of course I follow the games ...
But I don´t like if people goes over in hysteric and national arrogance. So I hope that the most people try to understand each other.
For me it doesn´t matter who wins. I´m for the weak teams:P... ok a bit to Germany--
So I enjoy it.., the WorldCup, the emotions, funny things, the people and the communication, with them.
But first, I have to study for my oral school-graduation.
